How it is scored

Five Pokémon are already seated and the sixth slot is yours. The eighteen columns under them are the eighteen attacking types; a column stamped OPEN is a hole, meaning something on the team takes extra damage from that type and nothing on the team resists it. The No answer line under the strip names them all. Today's board leaves 2 of them open: Electric and Ground.

Your score is the holes your pick closes minus the holes it opens, and it is worked out the only honest way: the Pokémon is seated, the whole board is computed again, and the columns stamped OPEN are counted. There is no opinion in it, and nothing you cannot check yourself by looking at the strip before and after. The best available answer is found the same way across every Pokémon legal in Regulation M-B, so the target is a real one rather than a number someone chose.

A pick can make the board worse. Seating something that adds a weakness nothing else on the team resists opens a new hole, and that counts against you exactly as closing one counts for you. Only days with a single best answer are used; if two candidates would tie, that day is skipped.

Why a puzzle and not a quiz

Type coverage is the one part of team building that has a right answer, and it is the part most players do by feel. Doing it once a day against a board you did not choose is the fastest way to stop guessing. The same reading is available on every team you build here — this is the same engine, pointed at a board picked by the date rather than by you.

Everyone gets the same five Pokémon and the same six candidates on the same day, because the puzzle is generated from the date alone. Nothing about your answer is sent anywhere.
