This tier list is not an opinion
Most Pokémon tier lists are somebody's ranking. This one is not: every Pokémon here is placed by
how often it was actually brought on the Regulation M-B VGC ladder across
1,764,686 battles, and the cut-offs are stated above each band. Nothing was
moved up because it is strong in theory or down because it is unfashionable.
That makes it useful for one thing in particular — knowing what you will meet — and useless for
another. Usage measures what people bring, which is a mix of strength, familiarity, availability
and habit. A Pokémon can be excellent and rare because it is hard to build around, and it can be
common and mediocre because it is easy. Read the bands as a map of the field, not a ranking of
quality.
How the bands are drawn
The thresholds are round numbers chosen once and applied to the data: 20%, 10%, 5%, 2% and 1% of
teams. They are not fitted to produce a pleasing distribution, which is why the bands are uneven —
S has 9, A has 6, B has 14, C has 28, D has 14, E has 210. A format with a small number of
near-mandatory Pokémon looks exactly like this, and flattening it would hide the finding.
When it changes
Regulation M-B closes on 9 September 2026. This page is regenerated from
Smogon's published statistics on every build rather than edited by hand, so it moves with the ladder
and will be rebuilt from the next regulation's data rather than rewritten. If you want the detail
behind any row, each one links to its own page with the moves, item, ability and spread the ladder
runs on it.
