What Mega Evolution changes

Garchomp, number 445 in the National Dex and a Sinnoh Pokémon, holds Garchompite Z to become Mega Garchomp Z, taking its total from 600 to 700. The biggest single gain is 61 Sp. Atk, followed by 49 Speed. It also loses 10 Defense.

The typing changes: it drops Ground, which rewrites every matchup below. Mega Evolving replaces Sand Veil and Rough Skin with Sand Force.

What gets through

As Dragon, 3 of the eighteen attacking types get through for extra damage. It resists 4. The full board is above; the short version is that the types listed under ×2 and ×4 are the ones worth planning around.

Not legal in Regulation M-B

Mega Garchomp Z cannot be used in the current Pokémon Champions regulation, so there is no ladder data for it and no legal set to report. Garchomp itself is legal and is played on 33.2% of teams — it is the Mega form that is barred, which means the Garchompite Z is the part you cannot bring.

Regulation M-B closes on 9 September 2026, and legality is regenerated from the format data on every build rather than written by hand, so this page will change on its own if that changes.

What threatens it

Smogon publishes no head-to-head checks-and-counters data for doubles formats, so this list is computed, not measured: these are the most-played Regulation M-B Pokémon carrying a damaging move of a type Mega Garchomp Z takes extra damage from.

Where it sits among the Megas

Of the 91 Mega forms in the dex, Mega Garchomp Z is 12th by base stat total. Its best stat is Speed at 151, which is 3rd among Megas; its worst is Sp. Def at 85, 72nd. No other Mega Evolution has the Dragon typing, so this matchup board is unique to it.

Putting it on a team

A Mega slot is a commitment: the stone occupies the held item, so whatever Mega Garchomp Z would have wanted from an item, it does not get. Drop it into the team builder to see what the rest of the six then have to cover, or take it to the damage calculator to find out whether those 141 points of Special Attack actually change a knockout.
