What this is

Smogon publishes a monthly set of usage statistics for every ladder it tracks, including the Pokémon Champions Regulation M-B doubles ladder. The figures below are drawn from the July 2026 files for the 1760 high ladder, a sample of 1,764,686 battles across 282 Pokémon with enough games to measure. This page is rebuilt from those files on every build of the site rather than written out once, which is the only way a page like this is still true in a month. The table below has 281 rows rather than 282, because Mega formes that are identical in battle — same typing, same stats, same abilities — are merged into one row with their usage summed, exactly as they share one page elsewhere on this site.

One thing to fix in your head before reading the table. A usage percentage is the share of teams that brought that Pokémon, not the share of battles it won. Ladder usage measures what people are choosing; it does not measure what is strongest, and the two diverge most exactly where a Pokémon is popular for being easy to play. Smogon publishes no head-to-head checks-and-counters data for doubles formats at all, so nothing here — and nothing anywhere on this site — is a measured counter.

The six usage figures on a team add up to about six, because every team has six slots. That is what makes the rest of this report possible: once the numbers are read as slots per team rather than as percentages, they can be added together.

Four things the table does not say on its own

1. 28% of an average team is a Mega Evolution

Add up the usage of every Mega form on the ladder and it comes to 1.66 of the 6.00 slots an average team fills — 27.7% of the format. 9 of the top 25 entries are Megas. Mega Evolution is not a flourish in Champions the way it was in its first appearance; it is close to a structural requirement, and a team built without one is giving up a resource that most of the field is spending.

2. It is a Dark, Fire and Ghost format

Counted by how many of a team's six slots carry each type, Dark at 1.06, Fire at 1.06, Ghost at 0.95 lead the eighteen. At the other end, Bug at 0.07, Electric at 0.15, Ice at 0.16 are effectively absent: you can build a whole team around beating them and never meet one. The single most-used Pokémon is Kingambit, on 36.8% of teams.

3. Ground is the attacking type that pays

This is computed rather than measured, and the arithmetic is worth stating so you can check it: for each attacking type, take every measured Pokémon it hits for double damage or better, and add up their usage. The answer is the expected number of an opposing team's six slots that a move of that type hits super-effectively.

Ground comes out on top at 2.11 slots of six — a single Ground move is super-effective against more than two members of the average team you will face, and against 0.08 of them at quadruple damage. Bug is the worst of the types that hit anything at all, at 0.46. Normal sits at zero for the obvious reason: nothing in the game takes extra damage from it.

4. What everyone is holding and clicking

Across the whole ladder, Protect is on 3.93 of the six slots and is carried by 221 different Pokémon — in a doubles format that number is usually above one, because most teams run it twice. The next most-brought move is Fake Out at 0.75. Excluding Mega Stones, the most-held item is Focus Sash at 0.78 slots per team. The most common ability is Intimidate at 0.40. The full breakdowns are at moves, items and abilities.

Screen recording: the three most-used Regulation M-B Pokemon are seated in the pkmnlab builder one after another, and the Weakness and Resistance strip fills the columns the resulting team is exposed to.

Reading a report as a team

A usage table is a list of what you will meet, which makes it a specification for what your six have to answer rather than a shopping list to copy. The useful move is to seat the top of the ladder in a builder and look at what the resulting team is still open to.

Every name in the table links to its own page here, with its ladder set, its effort spread, its partners and its computed threats. From any of them, one link seats it in the builder, and the eighteen-column strip does the rest.

If you would rather see the whole ladder banded rather than the top 25, the tier list is the same data with the cut-offs stated.

Method, and what it cannot tell you

Every figure on this page comes from Smogon's published chaos files for gen9championsvgc2026regmb-1760 in July 2026. Usage, moves, items, abilities, spreads and partners are read straight out of them. The four findings above are arithmetic on top of those figures and the type chart, and nothing else — no ratings, no opinions, no adjustments.

Four honest limits:

Regulation M-B closes on 9 September 2026. When it does, this report follows the format rather than the calendar: the same page regenerates against whatever the next regulation's ladder produces, and the month at the top is the only thing you need to check to know how fresh it is.
